A PB X Waiting for Dawn Candle

A limited-edition collaboration with author Marisa Renee Lee, made as a companion to her book, Waiting for Dawn: Living with Uncertainty.

This one's personal. Marisa's been part of the Predominantly Black story since almost the beginning — long before this was anything close to what it is now. Over the years, what started as customer and founder turned into something closer to friendship, built partly on things neither of us asked for: losing a parent, figuring out what comes after, learning to keep going without all the answers.

This candle carries OPULENCE, one of our signature scents — warm, rich, sophisticated — poured as a companion to Waiting for Dawn: Living with Uncertainty, Marisa's book about exactly that: living in the in-between, before things resolve.

The Story Behind the Collaboration

Marisa found Predominantly Black early. Back when the business was still mostly an idea with a candle attached to it. She kept showing up, kept buying, kept telling people about it before there was much reason to.

Somewhere along the way, we became more than founder and customer.

We didn't plan that around anything easy. It came out of loss. I lost my father. Marisa lost her mother. Different losses, different timelines, but the same general terrain — the part where the ground shifts and you're left figuring out how to stand on it anyway.

My father's passing left me part of an inheritance. I used it to help build Predominantly Black. It's not something I talk about often, but it's true, and it matters here: this business exists partly because of what he left behind.

Marisa's loss moved through her differently. It became Waiting for Dawn: Living with Uncertainty — a book about what it's like to live inside the unresolved parts of life, before there's an answer, before there's clarity, before dawn actually shows up.

Two different griefs. Two different things they turned into. This candle is where they meet.
