What Wellness Actually Looks Like When You're Building Something
Nobody told me that building a business would be the thing that finally forced me to take care of myself.
Not in the way people talk about wellness online — the 5am wake-ups, the green smoothies, the hour-long morning routines that somehow fit into a life I don't recognize. I'm talking about the kind of wellness that actually works. The kind that's quiet. The kind that looks a lot more like doing the dishes than it does a spa day.
I've been building Predominantly Black Candle Haus for a while now. And somewhere between late nights, inventory decisions, content calendars, and all the things nobody sees — I realized something that genuinely shifted how I move through my days:
"My tomorrow depends on what I do today."
That's it. That's the whole thing.
Some Days, Wellness Looks Like Rest
And I mean real rest. Not the kind you guilt yourself through. Not 'I should probably take a break' while you're still mentally running through your to-do list. I mean actually putting the phone down, lighting a candle, and letting the day be done.
Some nights that's all I need. Just a signal to my nervous system that we made it through another one. There's something about the smell of Solitude — the sage, the lemon, the earthy quiet of it — that does that for me. It's not a ritual. It's just how I land.
Rest isn't laziness. It's prep. It's me making sure there's actually someone left tomorrow to do the work.
Some Days, Wellness Looks Like a Slow Morning
I used to feel guilty for not jumping straight into work the second I woke up. Likeproductivity started at 6amor it didn't count.
Now? A slow morning is a strategic choice. Coffee before the phone. Movement before the inbox. Giving myself a little time to actually be a person before I have to be a founder.
It sounds simple. It took me longer than I'd like to admit to get here.

And Some Days, Wellness Looks Like Just... Doing the Thing
Meal prepping on Sunday so I don't eat poorly all week. Packing my gym bag the night before so there's no excuse. Doing the dishes before bed because I know waking up to a clean kitchen changes my entire morning.
None of that is glamorous. None of it would make a great Instagram Reel. But all of it is wellness — because all of it is me choosing to make my tomorrow easier than today.
That's what keeps my anxiety in check. Not the supplements. Not the journaling (though, no shade — it works for some people). It's the action. The small, boring, consistent action that proves to my brain that I'm actually in control of something.
What I'm Learning
Wellness for me right now isn't an aesthetic. It's a practice. It's the decision — made daily, sometimes hourly — to do the thing today that Future Me is going to be grateful for.
Some days that looks like rest. Some days it looks like a soft morning. And some days it looks like getting through the checklist and doing the dishes and packing the bag and going to bed early even when I don't want to.
Creating a calm environment has become part of my routine as well, which is one of the reasons I started developing the fragrances I do. Currently burning A TRIO SET, three candles, one for every room.
All of it counts.
If you're building something too — a business, a body, a new version of yourself — I see you. And I hope your Haus is somewhere you actually want to come home to.
Happy Monday! Here's to living well on your terms and how you see fit.
