The candles changed everything.
Hi — I'm Mya, founder of Predominantly Black. PB started before there was a candle in sight. I launched the brand in 2015, built with money I inherited after losing my father.
A few years later, I tested a small run of candles. They sold out in days. That changed the direction of the business. I taught myself candle-making in my Los Angeles kitchen and created the first PB scents: SOLITUDE, MADNESS, and SUBTLE. By 2019, PB had become A Predominantly Black Candle Haus.
Today, Predominantly Black is a fragrance-led home and body HAUS making candles, wax melts, room + linen spray, body care, bath, and fragrance. The categories have grown, but the point has stayed the same: make the things you bring into your space and onto your body feel considered, useful, and worth keeping around.
What we make
The HAUS now moves through scent in more than one form: candles, wax melts, room + linen spray, body care, bath, and fragrance. Our candles use a soy-coconut wax blend, and our body products are built around ingredients chosen for feel, function, and everyday upkeep.
I'm self-taught, which means the work has always been hands-on: reading, testing, reformulating, burning, wearing, spraying, and trying again. I also study perfumery and formulation through the Herbal Academy, expanding the technical side of what started at a kitchen table.
That approach carries through the whole HAUS. The candle has to burn properly. The wax melt has to throw. The room + linen spray has to refresh the space. The body product has to feel right on skin. Fragrance has to do more than smell good — it has to belong where you use it.

Where we're goingPB is going home — back to the fragrance-first foundation that built the HAUS, with a clearer connection between what scents the room, what lives on the body, and what you carry with you.
That means continuing the candle work while expanding thoughtfully through wax melts, room + linen spray, body care, bath, perfume oils, and fine fragrance. More ways to live with the scent. Still the same HAUS.
