I realized the other day that I’ve been working on so many things behind the scenes at Predominantly Black that I haven’t actually stopped to talk about any of them.
So, here’s what’s been going on.
The last few weeks have been a lot of custom event candles, pop-ups, partnerships, market days, fragrance work, planning for fall and holiday, and figuring out what I want the next phase of Predominantly Black to look like.

More events, partnerships + PB out in the world
I’ve been doing more pop-ups lately, including Black Market Flea, along with my regular market days.
As much as selling online is obviously a huge part of PB, I really like getting the products in front of people in person.
You learn so much just standing there watching people shop.
What they smell first. What they come back to. What they immediately understand and what I have to explain. The scent they swear they don’t like and then somehow end up buying.
It’s also a good reminder that not every event is going to be your event. Sometimes the crowd is exactly your customer and sometimes it isn’t. That’s business.
But I always leave knowing something I didn’t know before.
I’ve also been working on more partnerships and collaborations, which has probably been the biggest shift happening with PB lately.
There are some things I can’t share yet, but I’ve been doing more custom fragrance work, collaborative candles, event gifting and projects that take PB outside of just selling candles on predominantlyblack.com.
And I really like where that’s going.
Behind the scenes: making 120 custom event candles
One of those projects was an order for 120 custom event candles.
It started as 100.
Because of course it did.
If you’ve ever wondered what 120 candles looks like in production, the answer is: a lot.
A lot of tins. A lot of wicks. A lot of labels. A lot of boxes. And somehow every available surface in my house becomes part of the production line.
The actual pouring is probably the easiest part.
It’s everything before and after that takes the time — prepping, wicking, pouring, curing, fixing the tops, labeling, checking everything, packing everything and making sure the 120th candle looks like the first one.
But I love seeing a custom order finished.
There’s something really satisfying about looking at all of them together and knowing they’re about to show up at someone’s event.
And I’ve been doing enough of this kind of work lately that I finally decided to give it a proper home.

HAUS PARTY: custom event candles + fragrance favors
HAUS PARTY is the event side of Predominantly Black.
I’ve done custom candles and favors for years, but I’m expanding what that can look like.
Custom event candles, signature scents, fragrance keepsakes, gifting and other ways to bring fragrance into an event.
I don’t want it to just be, “Here’s a candle with your name on it.”
I want it to feel like something that was actually made for the occasion.
That could mean creating a scent around the event, designing the presentation, incorporating the story behind it or creating something guests will actually want to take home and use.
I’ve also been developing our HAUS PARTY SIGNATURE SCENT KEEPSAKES, which are custom perfumes created for events and presented as part of the experience.
There’s a lot more I want to do with HAUS PARTY, so you’ll be seeing more of that.

Fall, holiday + what’s next for PB
Somewhere between making 120 candles, doing markets and working on partnership projects, I’m also getting ready for fall and holiday.
I’ve been going through fragrances, figuring out what’s coming back, working on new discovery options, thinking about the Core Collection and planning holiday gifting.
Basically, if PB has seemed a little quiet online, it definitely has not been quiet over here.
I’ve just been working.
And there’s a lot coming.
